When you want to punish an erring official, post him to the Northeast. The news that a Punjab and Haryana High Court judge allegedly involved in the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) scam has been recommended for transfer to the Gauhati High Court has triggered off a wave of protest in Assam.
The Gauhati High Court Bar Association has appealed to the President, the prime minister and the CJI to transfer Justice Amarbir Singh Gill (as ordered by the then CJI, B.N. Kirpal) or any other tainted judge to the Gauhati High Court in public interest.
