Less than 18 months after he came to power with a resounding majority, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi simultaneously battles ill health and a recalcitrant PCC. So, while Gogoi undergoes treatment for back pain and other undisclosed ailments at New Delhi’s aiims, the state unit has seized the opportunity to demand a performance report from the state government. The APCC is headed by Lok Sabha MP and known Tarun Gogoi-baiter Paban Singh Ghatowar.
Citing his prolonged absence from the state, many leaders are now demanding that either a deputy CM be appointed or a political affairs committee comprising senior ministers formed.
