Things may have quietened down a bit on the north-eastern front but for Sonia Gandhi and her party it’s 1-1. The Congress has lost Mizoram, which was perhaps expected, but has won Meghalaya. And though the party has failed to win a simple majority in the state, Sonia has had the satisfaction of keeping her bete noir Purno A. Sangma at bay in his home state.
The Congress emerged as the single-largest party in Meghalaya by winning 22 seats while Sangma’s NCP was a distant second with only 14 mlas.
